July 4th in Murrells Inlet 2023

July 4th in Murrells Inlet 2023

Murrells Inlet and the surrounding areas had awful storms on July 4, 2022 and most July 4th events were canceled. Some of you may remember that the bell tower at the Surfside Beach Presbyterian Church caught fire after it was struck by lightening. Having missed events last year or being new in town, you may be wondering where to go and what to do to celebrate July 4th in Murrells Inlet in 2023. Read on for more details.

Murrells Inlet July 4th Events

As you can imagine, most events in Murrells Inlet take place in or around the water. July 4th is no different!!

Murrells Inlet Boat Parade

Every city needs a parade on July 4th, right? In typical fashion, Murrells Inlet celebrates a tradition with a twist!

Instead of hosting a parade on land, Murrells Inlet hosts a Boat Parade! The time of the event is dependent on the tides. This year’s event will start at 6:00pm at the Point in Garden City Beach and the theme is “Made in the USA”.  Decorated boats move from The Point through the inlet towards the Marshwalk. The parade can be seen anywhere along the inlet. Some of the best places to view the parade are the Marshwalk, Belin Memorial United Methodist Church and Morse Park Landing.

Each year, Boat Parade t-shirts are sold and money raised goes to support the Belin Memorial United Methodist Church Boy Scout Troop. T-shirts are $10 and there are only a few left. You can find t-shirts while supplies last at Lee’s Inlet Apothecary, Lazy Gator and Conway National Bank in Murrells Inlet.

Murrells Inlet Fireworks

The 20+ minute fireworks display in Murrells Inlet starts at 10:00pm at the Marshwalk.

If you go to the Boat Parade and also want to see the fireworks, plan to stay at the Marshwalk between the two events. Parking fills up quickly and you do not want to lose your spot! Marshwalk Restaurants (Bovine’s, Wahoo’s Fish House, Drunken Jack’s, Creek Ratz, Dead Dog Saloon, The Claw House, The Wicked Tuna, and Neptune Bistro and Raw Bar) will have live music, food and drinks throughout the day. Stay and enjoy yourself!!

Salute from the Shore

What started as an idea among friends has become a big hit and expected annual event! 2023 marks the 14th annual Salute from the Shore. What is the Salute from the Shore? Military planes fly down South Carolina’s coast while beachgoers honor our current military by salute]ing the planes flying overhead.

This year’s flyovers start at 11:00 in Murrells Inlet. Vintage planes will be flown from Murrells Inlet to Folly Beach. Beginning at 1:00pm two F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base and one C-17 from Charleston Air Force Base will start their flight south. They start at Cherry Grove Beach in North Myrtle Beach and end in Beaufort.

Take pictures or videos of the planes and the people saluting the plane. Upload any pictures or videos you take to your social media and use the tag #SalutefromtheShore.

July 5th Clean Up

As you can imagine with the fireworks and extra guests in town, the Marshwalk gets messy. From 9:00-11:00am on July 5th, come out and help clean up the area. Anyone wanting to help with the clean-up can meet at the Murrells Inlet 2020 office. All supplies will be provided.

Happy July 4th!

Remember to keep an eye on the weather. Since all of the July 4th events in Murrells Inlet are held outside, things can be postponed or canceled because of the weather. However you decide to enjoy July 4th this year, have fun and be safe!!
