Security for Your New Home

Whether you own a primary home, second home or an investment home, you may want to consider adding security for your new home.

Locks and Doorknobs

Once you get moved into your home either change your locks or get new door knobs/locks for your home. You never know who may have a copy of the key. You can look at standard doorknob options or consider a doorknob that uses a code or fingerprint for entry.

Keypad doorknobs (especially ones where you can change the code remotely) are great options for investment properties and second homes. You can change the code after each guest or give your cleaning company or handyman their own specific code.

Garage Door

Make sure to reprogram the remotes to your garage door. Also clear and reprogram the garage keypad, if you have one.

Security Systems/Cameras

The system could be as elaborate as a monitored security system or as simple as a video doorbell.

Look at the security systems offered by HTC if you have HTC for your cable, internet and/or phone service. You could also look at ADT for a wide variety of security products.

If you prefer to self monitor your home, look at options from Arlo, Ring and SimpliSafe for video doorbells and camera.

I think having at least a video doorbell is a good idea for all properties. Video doorbells are an easy way to keep an eye on your property.

Thinking about security for your new home is an important item to check off your to do list after you get moved. Keep yourself and your property safe!
